- I WISH I COUD REMEMBER, FOUR LIFESTYLE CHANGES FOR BETTER MEMORY: A PROGRAM DESIGNED TO IMPROVE AND PROTECT YOUR MEMORY
The implications for this memory learning program are not to be for socioeconomic benefits but for better brain health. With access to information regarding neural development, adults can now change the landscape of the brain in more ways than one: Help to increase brain cells, and reverse memory problems. An enriched environment that involves learning with novelty, learning with controversy in conflict to myths and standard beliefs, employs meaningful activities or practices that include the use of all five senses. I have employed Hebb’s theory of plasticity and incorporated it in the memory learning program. Practice the new information as early as possible to maintain the new cell growth gained through the learning process. This new learning must be transferred into everyday life for memory to remain. Long term memory relies on the survival of the newly formed cells. New cells die in a matter of weeks if not used. It is the activity that follows learning that keeps the cells alive. Use it or lose it.
